Script 5
Hello and welcome to DB. episode 5. As always I am your host Andrey and today I want to tell you about about ethical, legal and regulatory issues associated with media products.
Tyrannosaur had a great impact on its audience making some terrified because of Tyrannosaurs horrible violent scenes and leaving others deep in thought because of Tyrannosaurs deep meanings. Audience described Tyrannosaur as a "bloody masterpiece" and a "horrid creation" but everyone who has seen tyrannosaur can agree that tyrannosaur's director and the rest of the crew did a great job of tyrannosaur and expressing their original thoughts for the film.
In 1930 Theodore Adorno talked about the active and passive theory. The active theory is that media is able to control a big audience by exposing the audience to certain imagery. The passive theory suggests that the audience are able to take in any media and not get affected by it. Overall this theory suggests that Tyrannosaur has a chance of making its audience in to a bunch of murdering psychopaths or it will just make the audience horrified by the film and it will not affect them at all.
The effect that Tyrannosaur had on its audience is very mixed as some liked the film and others were shocked by the film. Some may think that this film will inspire its audience to do good deeds and protect what you love by all costs. But other audiences agree that this film may inspire its audience to become maniacs and murderers and follow in Joe's bloody footsteps. Although no such actions have been recorded.
Tyrannosaur represents many different types of people but mainly it represents people like Joseph which are middle-aged unemployed men and Hannah who is a middle-aged wife who is being abused but she doesn't want to or is being forced not to tell. Overall the film represents the stereotypes for working class and how tough it is for them to live in such communities.
In Tyrannosaur we see some racial discrimination when Joseph throws a brick at a window of a shop run by Muslims who denied him sale after Joseph was racist to them by making "jokes" about suicide bombings. Later that day Joseph gets attacked by the workers of that shop and gets beaten and left knocked out in a park. These seem to be the only time when an ethical issue happens. This can be considered as counter stereotype as people who live in such communities are often considered very racist and the film only having one issue is very different.
Joseph does a few illegal things during the film including destruction of property, animal cruelty, assault and even murder. these things are truly chilling and they make the film rated 18+ by BBFC. BBFC control the age ratings of films depending on their violent and sexual content they also use swearing as one of their factors there is a lot of swearing in the film as Joseph constantly gets overtaken by anger and lets it out by shouting and destroying everything around him. The film is an 18+ because of its gore, violence and other factors that push it over the line.
This brings us to the next point which is the regulatory bodies involved in the film. Regulatory bodies are organisations set up to make sure that the film is shown at the right time depending on its content as a film with a murder scene will be shown after the watershed and the adverts of a kids programme will not include a horror movie. The ASA are responsible for any advertising made for the movie this not only includes TV and radio ads but also posters and leaflets and so on. The poster for Tyrannosaur followed the ASA guidelines and it involved a man standing between two trees with a skeleton of a tyrannosaurus rex under fix feet. This poster did not have any blood, gore or any other imagery that would expose the audience to anything that can only be viewed by mature audiences therefore was allowed to be advertised around the country.
